Key
Specs
- Sensor: 23.5 x 15.7 mm CCD (crop 1.53), diagonal: 28mm.
Impressions
- the buttons on the back feels really cheap.
- there are no custom modes (to save and recall camera settings), but I
don't really miss them.
- the battery indicator does only have three levels: full, low and almost
empty.
- it is hard to see whether the camera is on if it is in powersave mode, a
big green light would have been nice.
- the menu works as well as on my Canon cameras (they are often described as
much worse).
- there is an orientation sensor and it is possible to enable auto-rotate in
playback.
Kit
Lens
Tamron
17-50
I replaced the kit lens with a Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD
Aspherical [IF]. The lens is bigger and heavier, but otherwise it is a
huge improvement over the kit.
M42
Lenses
Works well using an adapter.
Compact Flash Card
Speeds
I have timed my cards by taking 15 raws in continous mode:
- Sandisk Standard 512MB: 15 raws in 36 seconds, corresponding to 3.65
MB/s.
- Sandisk Extreme III 1.0GB: 15 raws in 15 seconds, corresponding to 8.75
MB/s.
The Sandisk Extreme III seems to be the fastest card for the 5D. There
is a list of measured speeds on a number of cards on this page:

Custom
Settings
- Diopter: +1 (circle on dial just to the left of dot on camera)
- For people, try: colour setting natural+ with contrast +1 saturation 0 and
sharpness +2.
